Noriega - Bakersfield, CA

The Noriega is recognized as the oldest, and last, Basque boardinghouse/restaurant in the world. We continue to be the hub of the Kern County Basque community and are proud to serve exceptional Basque "family style" meals to the public.

The Noriega Hotel was founded in 1893 and taken over in 1931 by Juan and Gracianna Elizalde and has been operated by the Elizalde family ever since. In 1940 the success of the restaurant necessitated the addition of the present bar and dining room. (from http://noriegahotel.com)
