Phnom Penh House was first opened in 1986, when our family was given political asylum after surviving the Khmer Rouge torment in Cambodia. Seeking a fulfilling life and a promising start in our new country, all members of our family put what we had together and opened a Cambodian restaurant in Oakland Chinatown.

Owner/Chef Carlo Nicolazza, originally from Naples, opened Bella Italia in 2001. He has spent most of his adult life in the restaurant industry, including many years on the Italian coast.
