The idea of the restaurant was to make a rugged clandestine colonial American tavern. The cuisine was also imagined to be early American: simple, rustic, and inspired by old-world traditions.

In the fall of 2004, Taavo Somer and William Tigertt happened upon a perfect, cozy space at the end of an unused alley off the Bowery. Freeman restaurant was born.

Our downtown, St. Louis eatery offers excellent pastas, to include Rigatoni Giuseppe, a spicy cream sauce of fresh tomato, vodka and shallots, a very popular menu item! Try our fresh Veal, chicken, seafood or beef entrees. Ask your server about our succulant Shrimp Bianco, huge shrimp in a brandy Cajun cream sauce. Lastly, you will not be able to resist our trademark Veal Sanfilippo, which consists of medallions of veal in a cabernet wine sauce.
