Our building was constructed in 1908 as a home, and was used as a flower shop, real estate office, and for other purposes before Uncle Bill McElroy opened Uncle Bill's in 1961. Or rather, half of it was Uncle Bill's - the south end was a barbershop until 1999.

Paul Allen Van Amburgh bought the restaurant in 1973, remodeled the place a bit, and added a few tables.

When you enter New World Deli you are greeted by the aromas of simmering sauces, homemade soups, and roasting meats wafting from the kitchen. This casual Hyde Park cafe caters to those who crave an old-fashioned sandwich piled high with fresh deli meat, cheese and all the trimmings.
