Today, the Rockford carries on as one of the last bastions of subtlety on Glenwood Avenue. Gourmet sandwiches and weekly food specials, accompanied by tasty, affordable drinks, help maintain Rockford's reputation as an integral part of Raleigh.
In 1994, The Rockford opened its doors. At the time, it was the only bar or restaurant in the now bustling strip known as Glenwood South. Its lack of signage provided its patrons with a lucky discovery as they stumbled upon its inconspicuous upstairs location. Many had heard through the grapevine of the Rockford’s charming coppertop bar and its now legendary ABC (apple, bacon, cheddar) sandwich.
This immediately made the Rockford a popular neighborhood restaurant and pub in the most classic sense. At the Rockford, you will find artists, musicians and professionals rubbing elbows in the comfortable, rustic atmosphere seven days a week. (from http://www.therockfordrestaurant.com)
