After spending three and a half years in the food service industry bussing and waiting tables, Dillon decided in the summer of 1982 to open his own restaurant in the resort area of Virginia Beach. Having been heavily influenced by the Beatles when growing up, thanks to his two older sisters who listened to their records all the time, he decided to name it 'Abbey Road' after the last album the Beatles recorded before they split up in 1970.

Our building was constructed in 1908 as a home, and was used as a flower shop, real estate office, and for other purposes before Uncle Bill McElroy opened Uncle Bill's in 1961. Or rather, half of it was Uncle Bill's - the south end was a barbershop until 1999.

Paul Allen Van Amburgh bought the restaurant in 1973, remodeled the place a bit, and added a few tables.
