Engine Co. No. 28 has been putting out appetite fires with classic American dishes inspired by the regional cooking of firehouses across the country.

Opened in January of 1989, Engine Co. No. 28 is an American restaurant reminiscent of the classic grills of San Francisco and New York - mahogany booths, granite bar, pressed tin ceilings and brick floors - set in a beautifully restored 1912 downtown Los Angeles firehouse. The restaurant's atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with a staff that is both friendly and attentive.

The Maria's tradition began in 1952 when Maria and Gilbert Lopez started a small take-out kitchen in the area that now houses our bar and fine kitchen. Maria's traditional Northern new Mexico cooking soon became such a hit that Gilbert built a patio. But the rains were relentless that year, so Gilbert covered the patio with the very vigas and roof that are still in place today, in what we now call "The Cantina." Cafe Pasqual's is named for the folk saint of Mexican and New Mexican kitchens and cooks, San Pasqual.
